2014 Calendar Image Countdown- July

Banff National Park, Alberta

The July image in my 2014 calendar is another from north of the border, taken in Alberta’s Banff National Park. I like the motion blur of the water in this one, and how the flowers seem to pop against the background. However, what I really love about this shot is that I was able to isolate and identify a fairly intimate scene despite being surrounded by absolute grandeur.

For those who have never ventured to the Canadian Rockies, there are jaw-dropping vistas everywhere you look. The jagged saw tooth mountains, broad picturesque meadows and glowing turquoise glacial lakes present such splendor that it can sometimes be difficult to also notice the beauty which surrounds you on a smaller scale. I’m really glad that I had the mindset to be aware of this, and took the time to explore photo opportunities below my feet. While I got some classic landscape photos of the mountains, this wildflower scene ended up being a favorite from my visit to the park.
